Welcome to The Independent American Indian Review,
A note from the senior editor.

The Independent American Indian Review has been published consistently since 1993. This unique quality control magazine was initiated in Tempe, Arizona by founder Mimi / W'o okihi o'ta yuha' win / MLS, M Ed.

W'o okihi o'ta yuha' win is a Lakota Sioux name which translated into english means "A Woman With Many Talents", a name reflecting her diversified education, talents, and expertise. She is also an accomplished performing artist who uses her artistic talent to support quality education for, by and about American Indians.

The magazine since its inception, has published articles written about contemporary diverse American Indian nations, and reviews written from American Indian perspectives. The magazine is appropriate for general readers and educators at all levels who are interested in contemporary American Indian communities and reviews of books, CDs, tapes, and other multi-media available on the market today. The magazine also highlights other American Indian review resources.

The Independent American Indian Review is published 3 times per year: Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall. It is appropriate for any person or group interested in learning more about contemporary American Indians. The first section of each issue (with the exception of index to reviews editions) focuses on a different American Indian community or a number of Indian communities within a region. This section takes readers from the past to the present in the areas of history, heritage, and cultures of the peoples. Articles share economic development information and feature interviews and/or information on contemporary American Indian leaders who have broken today's negative stereotypes and who are working to gain control of their community's destiny. The intent is to inform readers that American Indians today vary in many ways: by occupation, education, professional association, and appearance. Photographs are included whenever possible to link readers with these contemporary American Indian people. Spring/Summer 1997
