"Mimi McBride / Wo' okihi o'ta yuha' win ... has never forgotten a lesson that she learned from her... Lakota Sioux roots. ... People need to respect eachother... The CD 'You Are You' ... shares a positive message and encourages people's regard for divergent views."

"McBride's first mixes styles well"
"She calls her music 'blues/rock originals with a Native American edge,' but it seems to have a broader appeal and wider influences than that."
"The CD You Are You includes songs, all written by Mimi except 'Not Takin' No for An Answer'. This tune opens with Native American chants and talks about the pride of Native Americans and their aspirations for life in the future. The seven-member backup band works together particularly well on this number... The chants of the Lakota Sioux IronWood singers weave in and out of the lead vocals with an ease I haven't heard from similar groups trying to mix contemporary and traditional music. Mimi does a stage show that's highly popular and includes traditional Native American dancers. This song seems to be written with that in mind.. Mimi's tried to keep all the CD's lyrics positive in accordance with her philosophy of life. It should also be noted that she's not just a front person for studio musicians. She arranged and produced the entire CD. Mimi says she tries to keep her music realistic. This is apparent in 'Season's In The Night'. It starts slow and melodic with poetic lyrics. Quickly the soft flute gives way to a loud, angst-ridden rocker with good harmonies and pounding drums that once again bring it back to Mimi's Native American origins. 'It Doesn't Matter' and 'You Are You' are redone instrumentals to close the CD. 'Doesn't Matter' showcases the guitar with some gutsy blues licks... I think this is a good first effort... It has a certain sincerity that's rare among bands today."

"Mimi McBride is unique... A Native American who digs deep into her roots to come up with a mix of Native influence, r&b, and pop. It's easy to spot the influences in Ms. McBride's latest effort, 'You Are You', on World Views Records. From the repeating tom-tom laying in the background of the chorus in 'Determination', to the obvious message of 'It Doesn't Matter', and into 'Not Takin No For An Answer', the title track, 'You Are You', and 'Seasons In the Night', Ms. McBride hangs her influences on her sleeve and hints at her convictions loudly enough to be heard by deaf ears. The words "Wo' okihi o'ta yuha' win" appear underneath her name on the CD. When roughly translated this means 'the woman with many talents'. This is very applicable and becomes obvious when you realize that she has written, performed and produced the CD. Mimi McBride is one of the few Native American musicians who is taking her music out and showing it off for anyone who wants to get an earful. Pick up the CD, if the above strikes your curiosity."
